How to Get Amazon to Recognize Your Device

Start by connecting your device to the internet and signing in with the Amazon account you want to use. On an Amazon device, open its settings and look for an option such as “Register” or “My Account.” In an Amazon app on another device, open the app and sign in. If Amazon displays a code, enter it at the web address shown on your screen using a phone or computer.

A device can be registered successfully but appear to be missing if you’re viewing a different Amazon account. Compare the email address on the device with the one you use to shop or access Prime Video, then check the device list under your account’s content and device settings. If the addresses differ, sign out on the device and sign back in with the intended account.

Not every device supports every Amazon service. For example, Prime Video requires a supported app or browser, while an Alexa-enabled product may need its manufacturer’s setup app before you can link your Amazon account. Confirm that your device model, operating system, and app version meet the service’s requirements; updating the app is a useful first step, but it cannot add support to an unsupported model.
If you’re moving to a replacement device, sign in on the new one and test playback or other features before removing the old one. You can then deregister a device you no longer own from your Amazon account’s device settings. For more help planning your Amazon shopping, see our Amazon promo code calendar guide.
Sign in on the device or Amazon app with your account credentials. If prompted, enter the verification code Amazon sends you or the device code at the address displayed on your screen.
The Amazon service you want may not support your device model, operating system, browser, or app version. Update its software and confirm the service’s device requirements.
Open the device’s setup menu or its companion app and choose the option to sign in or link an Amazon account. Follow the on-screen steps and approve any requested account connection.
Connect the device to the internet, open its account or registration settings, and sign in with your Amazon account. If it shows a registration code, enter that code at the web address shown on the device.
Prime is a membership on your Amazon account; you generally register the device with Amazon or sign in to the Prime Video app. If that fails, check the account, connection, app version, and device compatibility.
Sign in to Prime Video on your new supported device with the Amazon account that has Prime access. To remove the old device, find it in your Amazon account’s device settings and choose “Deregister.”
